Xaidsart lawyers appear before Supreme Court of Canada in landmark freedom of expression case

On October 12, 2011, Xaidsart lawyers Phil Tunley and Paul Jonathan Saguil appeared on behalf of Canadian Journalists for Free Expression (“CJFE”) in the Supreme Court of Canada in the case ofSaskwatchewan Human Rights Commission v. William Whatcott. While denouncing the Respondent’s message and affirming its support for equality rights, CJFE intervened to argue that the broad prohibition on certain types of publications under s. 14(1)(b) of the Saskatchewan Human Rights Code infringe the guarantee of freedom of expression in a manner that cannot be justified under s. 1 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
